This article is another one that left me very surprised in regard to the recent bridge collapse in Baltimore. This article has the voice of George Solis and Marlene Lenthang while also including insider evidence from the wife of one of the construction workers. Similar to my last blog post it this article begins from a factual standpoint examining basic ideas. The wife mentions “we don’t know if they were warned before the impact.” This can be analyzed in many different ways, there was some time before impact and the cargo ship knowingly losing control. Traffic was warned not to enter the bridge but my thoughts are skeptical. Was someone not doing their job properly and could these 9 men perhaps had been rescued? Something that is not officially stated but clearly implied was the mexican decent of these men who were repairing potholes on the bridge. It is stated one man refused treatment so he did not want to go to the hospital. After a bridge collapses and something that drastic occurs and then followed by these men stating that they do not want care and that they are all related in some ways paints a picture of the United States in a way. Whether NBC was purposeful in this decision it is evident that our country even at night (the time the bridge collapsed) is ran on the backs of green card citizens or illegal immigrants working overnight shifts on bridges to support their families. Mentioning all of them were of mexican decent seemed interesting and almost an unnecessary aspect to the story. I do not know the goal of the tone in this article. It is stated there was a call for a warning but I would like to know when the warning was given. Although it happened so fast I wonder if the crew on the cargo ship had the ability to notify them earlier. NBC did not seem to have a very negative tone however, some things could have been omitted and caused me to raise my eyebrows on multiple different occasions.
