Critical Analysis:
Interesting that right off the bat CNN acknowledges that there is a mess inside the House and that a disconnect and departure from the house is not surprising. There is immediately this expectation within the article that those who are in the same party should be peaceful towards their representative. We see in this article a language of pandemonium and that many of the Representatives are not happy with what has been taking place. It seems that the article paints a distrusting Congress since there are controversies inside the GOP. I think using the language of the older members aging out or growing disinterest in being a part of the Energy and Commerce Committee. I find this interesting due to the fact that older members aging out or choosing to leave is a good outlook. CNN however, views them departing as a bad thing, a huge loss in and of itself. This leaves me to question why it is seen like this and why senior members leaving is necessarily a bad thing from CNN’s eyes? It mentions knowledge being lost but new ideas are always important and some knowledge is meant to become too old. Since CNN is a major news source they still included different takes on it. They even included a strong quote from Bob Good, which I admired what he said but realized almost all of the quotes within this article was almost all Republican. I do think that there was a bias towards the right wing party. Since they are a credible news source I think it needs to be in small increments that are almost undetectable. The lack of confidence with Congress in general is concerning to many people. “Underneath the chaos, there is also growing anxiety about the chances of the House GOP holding on to the majority in November, which was further compounded by Republicans losing a special election in New York – a key battleground – last week.”(Grayer et al.,2024) It seems like even in the article they are antsy about Republicans losing elections.
