Critical analysis:
After reading this article I didn’t get many vibes of bias. I did see in the article aggressive words to back up Nikki Haley as well as even President Biden. The choice of words seemed to be almost calling Trump out in a way saying things like “iron grip on the party” and “he criticized her.” Much of the article was even quotes of examples of Trump’s quotes and actions that incriminated himself. The framing of the article seemed to draw attention to Nikki doing or saying something and being disregarded by Trump or supported by Biden, despite them being obvious opponents. The article has a tone that clearly favored Haley. “ Only in the last months of her campaign did Haley begin to forcefully hit back at Trump, questioning his mental acuity, calling him a liar and saying he was too afraid to debate her.” (Slattery & Ox 2024). In the article we do see some clear evidence and including bits and pieces of Nikki’s words to hone in on how powerful she was of a candidate. Although she bowed out and stood no actual competition individuals were surprised by how much support she did get. The reporting of the article seems to focus on actual statistics while also shedding light on what Trump is doing and saying. After reading this article I realize when in regards to political articles I do find myself expecting a bias. I was almost in a way searching for one then needed to reconsider that I need to read and reread to properly analyze if there are hints of bias. I think when I read a political article I need to go in open minded and read from not my own party’s stances but from a clear lens to determine who has truth to what they are saying.
