FINAL REFLECTION #10

Overall, I feel like I could have written about my beliefs on this topic far before this project. However, I think this project furthered my own ideas to be even more developed than they were before. I agree fully with the idea that media ownership can change the whole narrative to the story and even guide viewers to interpret a story or situation through a certain lens. Many news sources have deals with either left wing leaning funding or right wing leaning funding. Because of this, the reader sees the outcome of the reporter and writer from that particular framework. Many news anchors/news outlets will only hire individuals that have the same beliefs or will write in a certain way in which their readers will be responsive to. This can be seen in the language of the writing itself as well as the way the story is narrated. A true giveaway lies in who is the antagonist, who is the victim, and who is the villain. For example, in Fox news that leans right typically speaking, we see that T...

Blog #9- Economist

April 15, 2024 https://www.economist.com/united-states/2024/04/14/what-to-expect-as-donald-trumps-first-criminal-trial-gets-under-way What to expect as Donald Trump’s first criminal trail gets under way Source: Economist Analysis:  This article had ALOT of voice and even had a funny way to refer to the situation overall. Words like “a bit of farce” and “a shit sandwich” are used to describe whats been going on with the former president and the issues that are taking place within Mr.Trump’s office. I immediately knew this article was against Trump and the issues surrounding him when it says “captures Mr Trump at his tawdriest.” Focusing on how cheap and slimy Trump’s allegations are. The article describes in detail the pay off of pornstar Stormy Daniels and does not leave out details. If this article had a voice of a republican these details would be skimmed over and not acknowledged in the grand scheme of things. This article even describes Trump’s footmen finding stories and...

Blog #8- USA today

April 15, 2024 https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2024/04/14/israel-iran-missiles-drone-retaliation/73321318007/ Source: USA today Israel’s long-simmering conflict with Iran moves out of the shadows. Will it spark a wider war? Critical Analysis: Overall I think this article did a great job at voicing the reality of the situation. However, there were some word choices that painted Iran to be a big enemy. “Vowed revenge” made my eyebrows go up. Of course wars have been happening for years and years and ongoing enemies in the middle east has been brooding for years. Iran has targeted many other countries. Iran launched weapons into Israel after Biden sent a warning. This paints Biden and the United States as an empathetic country when in reality we as a country do insert ourselves into international issues. Statements from other groups urging Israel to be “cautious about its response” seems to paint Israel as a country that cannot control themselves and make their own decision...

Blog #7- AP news

April 12, 2024 https://apnews.com/article/student-loan-cancellation-debt-forgiveness-college-fb020cb7f66d99db6c393c2be696bcf0 Source: AP News  Analysis:  Immediately this article is about politics so I knew I would hear a voice emerge in the context of whether Biden’s cancellation was ethically and morally sound or not. Ultimately, I saw that two republican leading states filed federal suits saying that they overstepped authority in the idea of repayment itself. It also included a quote that Biden said but did not clarify if they believe he followed through on the quote itself. Biden urging his team to create more lenient terms for those who have borrowed money and their ability and time frame to gain repayment back is something that seems to have upset different parties. The article details the specific monetary amounts that decide when cancellation and forgiveness is given in regard to time frames. It states the Biden Administration focuses on the issues that come about when...

Blog #6- Time

4/10/2024 https://time.com/6965267/women-having-kids-later/ Source: Time  Analysis: Overall, this article did not have a strong voice leaning towards the right. The authors did a great job at including all aspects that may lead both women and men to prolong the parental approach and they also included many statistical evidence to back their points up. They even included statistics of people of color and their reasons for holding off on their ideal number of children. I do appreciate how the article lays down information and suggests that perhaps holding off on kids is a good thing and that studies suggest better behaved children. Using evidence of math and that childcare is expensive and many people’s decisions all boil down to money that people have. This article may have a left leaning voice due to the acknowledgement and appreciation of understanding cycles and reproductive advances to prolong fertility in women. Including ideas of health issues and why having children may not b...
