FINAL REFLECTION #10
Overall, I feel like I could have written about my beliefs on this topic far before this project. However, I think this project furthered my own ideas to be even more developed than they were before. I agree fully with the idea that media ownership can change the whole narrative to the story and even guide viewers to interpret a story or situation through a certain lens. Many news sources have deals with either left wing leaning funding or right wing leaning funding. Because of this, the reader sees the outcome of the reporter and writer from that particular framework. Many news anchors/news outlets will only hire individuals that have the same beliefs or will write in a certain way in which their readers will be responsive to. This can be seen in the language of the writing itself as well as the way the story is narrated. A true giveaway lies in who is the antagonist, who is the victim, and who is the villain. For example, in Fox news that leans right typically speaking, we see that Trump needing to go to court is something drastic. It displays Trump as a victim and those who want to hold him accountable for crimes as the villains in the stories. News won’t even be reported factually and properly on so many platforms. We see this when certain details of the story are tweaked to turn the tables to a favorable light. In my own readings and findings, I did find alot of bias and certain approaches to writing that clearly favored some aspects more than others. I feel like I was very educated to know this before the completion of this project. However, many people take news sources and news articles as completely and 100% literal and factual which just isn’t true. Reading the same story on 3 different platforms will each individually leave you with an assumption. The power of writing is strong enough to reframe minds.
